Hello everyone,
I am Shobhitha Gopinath from India, currently studying in the second semester of Fitness and health promotion program at Georgian College. I am 34 years old, married and have two lovely daughters, aged twelve and eight. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from India in 2007. I stepped into my marital life in my final year of studies and went on to successfully graduate due to my hard work, dedication and the support of my husband.
Back home I had an opportunity to volunteer as a part-time physiotherapist in an orthopedic clinic for three years. As a physiotherapist, I have evaluated pain and assessed movement patterns, posture, strength and flexibility, joints and reflexes and have also prescribed appropriate therapy. In 2012, I had to take a break from my career, since we moved to the USA for my husband's employment. My family took priority over my career.
My determination and passion to further my educational qualifications encouraged me to apply to Georgian College. My parents, children, husband and his family have always been a pillar of support in my endeavor to further my knowledge and skills.
During my years of study, I had an internship at the local YMCA, where I gained awareness of the importance of exercise and the positive impact of diet and fitness on the prevention of injury to the human body. This motivated me to choose the Fitness and Health Promotion program.
I am confident that on completion of this course, I will have an understanding of the nature of scientific principles and learn to apply them to improve and maintain mental and physical health for a variety of individuals, unite the science of the human body with the art of motivation to support clients on their personal journey to a state of overall well-being. I will be blogging about my pathway towards the fitness industry.
